Because of the coronavirus pandemic we will not be meeting for a while.

Hoping things will get back to normal before too long!

Ato Rinpoche's advice regarding the coronavirus situation.

Venue: The upstairs room in the Quaker Meeting House, 5 South Terrace, Hastings TN34 1SA.

Regular date/time:  Fortnightly, on Monday evenings.   7.15 pm for 7.30 start.

The recent pattern is to have the meditation/puja from 7.30 - 8.30, then a cup of tea, and finish at 9.00, but we have the room until 9.30, and have in the past sometimes used this additional time for reading and discussing a Buddhist text.

This is an informal group for people interested in practicing meditation within a broadly Tibetan tradition.  All are welcome.  It is grounded in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition as transmitted by my teachers Lamas Ato Rinpoche and Chime Rinpoche.  When I lived in Norfolk we had a similar group known as ‘Tashi Ling’, which is Tibetan for ‘auspicious space’.  It took various forms over the years, and still continues, run now by Jim Spiller.  I started the Hastings Tashi Ling group in April 2019, and we have been meeting fortnightly since then, apart from the present ‘lockdown’ period.  Ato Rinpoche emphasises the importance of Buddhist basics, such as Shamatha meditation, the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Way, The Four Reminders and The Six Perfections.  Rinpoche also emphasises the importance of compassion, so that in alternate meetings we practice Shamatha meditation and a Tibetan ritual or puja centred around the Buddhist image of Chenrezi, whose name means ‘the one who looks with compassion’ or ‘Loving Eyes’ (Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit). As well as centring our minds on love and compassion, the ritual also functions as a means of mental concentration through using music and visualisation, so that we get a break from our usual patterns of thought and worry.    - Campbell Purton

Ato Rinpoche has recently circulated some advice in connection with the coronavirus situation, which can be found HERE.

The other pages of this website provide some background information about this Buddhist tradition, some guidance on meditation, the words and music of the Chenrezi puja, and some links to relevant websites.
